Hi World – I’m Back!

A wonderful and magical break in the clouds at Monte Alban

It’s been eight months since I last blogged and I am so happy and excited about being back. It was becoming a struggle to keep up to date with no internet access where we were staying and trying to keep an eye on Katie became too much to handle while using public wifi, she was getting frustrated, I was getting frustrated, it wasn’t good!

So where in the world are we now?! We’re back home in England, in a totally new part of our old city. Katie has started back at a fantastic school. She was really worried before returning if she’d forgotten how to make friends, yet she seems to be the class socialite now!

We used Oaxaca as a base but we travelled extensively, we went to Puerto Escondido on the Oaxacan coast several times and it never lost its’ magic. It’s right up there with the beaches in Thailand and Bali for us. I miss it terribly and would love to return one day.

My sister and nephew joined us in Oaxaca for Christmas and New Year. Have I got a fantastic story to tell you about New Years Eve in the Zocalo!! I can’t wait to share that. Then after NYE we spent a few days in Puerto Escondido. It was then a long bus journey up to Mexico City where my sister and nephew left us to fly back to England and Katie and I flew to New York for ten days where I celebrated my 30th birthday with new friends in a Chinese-Peruvian restaurant. You know you’re in New York when you’re eating Chinese Peruvian food right?! Where else in the world can you get that!

Our round the world journey was supposed to finish last June in New York, but with Central America beckoning we kept going. We chose to finish our big trip in New York as it’s our favourite city in the world so I was really happy that after extending our trip we still had our last hurrah in the Big Apple, it really meant a lot to me. I have a strong emotional attachment to New York, one day I will share it with you in a blog update, so to see out the trip and celebrate a milestone birthday was very special and I felt very blessed. It was the perfect finish.

So what now? Where do I go from here? First of all I would love to reconnect with all my old readers who messaged me through this blog, who left comments and get to know new ones. There is so much I haven’t shared so I really want to catch up and there is so much going on now so I think I will continue with my old style of blogging about both the past and present.

Just a quick mention about the photo I have chosen to use. It was taken when we returned to Monte Alban with my sister, it was a very grey and cloudy day, such a contrast to our previous visit when it was hot, sunny, green and lush. There was a break in the clouds and a ray of sunlight shone right down on a pyramid. It was magical.

Hi Crystal. Gosh yeah we’re so lucky! I look forward to keeping up to date with your life through your blog. Your latest post about the party made me LOL, we’ve all done it!

  3. I just read your “about us” article, wow! I admire what you and Katie are doing! I mean, I’m a backpacker myself, however I have my husband with me and no kid still. The responsibility you have to take must be much more than my situation! I will be reading your older posts, as well as looking forward to reading your current journey!

  4. I am on board with all these comments! It’s just so amazing how you chose to pursue something deemed *non-traditional*. Yay! Yay! Keep at it. :)
