Teotihuacan

One of the Pyramids

One of the Pyramids

Two nights ago a couchsurfer, Aurelie, from France arrived for a few days and yesterday we all went to one of Mexico’s major archaeology sites, the pyramids at Teotihuacan. It was only a bus ride away from Mexico City, in fact you could say it was on the outskirts as we never actually left suburbia. One minute we are driving through vast residential areas, then we turned a corner and we were there.

Katie and I both decided we wouldn’t look like your typical gringas if we didn’t wear silly sun hats, we just narrowly avoided buying cowgirl hats each for the sheer hell of it.

We climbed all 248 steps to the top, stopping along the way to admire the view and making the most of the rubber rope handrails to help haul ourselves up. It was strenuous to say the least and easy to lose your balance on the nigh narrow steps. Coming down a Frenchman behind me lost his footing and kicked me in the backside!

When we got back we were exhausted and after a shower I got ready for bed, then Ana, our landlady came home and we all ended up going out for tacos and then to a friends house for drinks and nibbles!
