I received an email yesterday from the peeps at the Guggenheim Museum in response to my complaint regarding the state we found the toilets in when we visited. You can read about it here Guggenheim Report. I think they were rather slow in their response time but I am pleased that they have got back to me.

The Visitor Services Department at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum received your comments regarding the restrooms in the museum. We are very sorry to hear of the distress you and your daughter experienced during your visit. Please know that we have taken measures to ensure that this problem will be resolved. We appreciate that you took the time to write about your experience and have forwarded your comments to the appropriate departments.

Fair enough! Still feel rather yucky though, I had never been moved to write a letter of complaint before. It did get me thinking however, that in Asia we would have been equally turned off using a toilet covered in urine and doors that didn’t lock, but would have taken it in our stride. Different cultures, different expectations.

On the whole restrooms in the US are pretty great, I remember the first time I ever used an automatic toilet, it was in the Rockefeller Cenre. I didn’t realise it was automatic having never used one before, and nearly jumped off it, but did give out a loud shriek, much to the amusement of two attendents I met leaving the cubicle, when I shuffled position and it gave a high power flush!

Was that TMI?!
